Two Three Confessions

I have not read Chaucer since high school. I only know who John Gower is through inference. And I really don’t mind.

Apologies to you late and/or lit types …

You only owe us apologies if you’re supposed to be teaching them or something. I mean, Special K hasn’t read Chaucer ever and doesn’t know who Gower is, but I’ve kept him around for almost 19 years!

That’s good! It’s just that sometimes I look at, oh … Speculum or the Kzoo program and think, “isn’t there anything else??”

Hey, I have those thoughts and I *have* read all of Chaucer and most of Gower. But you can’t trust me — I’d never heard of bastard feudalism! (And I’m still murky on the f’ed-upness of the f-word… I need a crash course.)

You can rest assured that some of us lit folks look at Speculum &c. and think Isn’t there anything else? too. Yawn. But then I am not Late.

I only know Gower because I have a friend who took English lit in university and loved all the early stuff EXCEPT GOWER. The first Gower jokes I heard were from him, not from an academic. He looks at the Kzoo program, finds the most theoretically jargonesque literary paper titles, add reads them aloud, adding “and Gower” to the end of each.ADM, when you figure out who Gower is, besides a late 14th c. guy who wrote in both English and Latin, let the rest of us know.

Steve, LOL I am so not planning on that! Not when I could find out more about, oh … pseudo-Isidore? Or any huge number of other people I actually want to know more about?

your thoughts?
